Pointing out that the port of Imam Khomeini is located at the northwestern part of the Persian Gulf and at the end of the natural waterway of Khormousa, 90 km from the center of Khuzestan province, Adel Deriss stated that This waterway is 42 miles long with a width of at least 250 meters and an average depth of 20 meters has provided a calm and safe route for all kinds of commercial ocean-going ships and oil tankers to all parts of the world.
Imam Khomeini Port is one of the largest and most important commercial ports in Iran with a total area of 11 million square meters which handles about half of non-oil exports of the country annually.
Due to its special economic and geopolitical location, Imam Khomeini Port is considered as the closest southern port of Iran to the countries of Turkey, Iraq and the Persian Gulf states. In addition, top notch marine equipment, transportation, transit and international railways make it possible for neighboring countries to transit goods at a lower cost through this port.
